I’ve been collecting vintage crochet pot holders to make a gallery wall in my kitchen. I’ve been thrifting them to use as kitchen or dining room decor and I finally figured out how to hang them. I had the idea to display them in rainbow order to add color and texture. Here’s how to DIY your own potholder gallery wall!
I’ve been finding pot holders at thrift shops over the past two years. I spend less than $2 on them unless they are really special, like the mushroom pot holder that I bought for $4 at a flea market. I love all the different styles and that the crocheted ones are handmade.
Pot holders are a perfect affordable vintage collection that you can easily start by visiting yard sales and thrift shops.
Supplies
Command decorating clips (Or nails or tacks)
That’s it! You’re supposed to clean the wall before adhering the Command hooks. But to be honest I didn’t do that and they’ve held up great. Haha!
Decide the pot holder placement
I wanted my pot holders to be displayed in rainbow order so I laid them on the counter first to decide their placement. I wanted my favorite mushroom pot holder to be the main focal point so I started with that pot holder in the middle and worked my way out.
Attach your Command hooks
All the Command hooks are in different spots because each pot holder is a different size. I held up each pot holder and decided its placement, then put the Command hook in that spot.
Then you wait
You can’t put the pot holders up immediately because the Command hooks need time to adhere to the wall. Be sure to read the instructions on the back of the box.
Hang up your pot holders
Now to the fun part! Hang those pot holders up where they belong. About half of my crochet pot holders didn’t have loops for hanging, so I put the pot holder directly on the hook. Since they are made of yarn it’s easy to find a little loose loop that you can use for attaching to the Command hook.
My vintage kitchen is very white so I wanted an easy way to add color without painting my cabinets. If you’d like tips for adding color to your home check out my post on Easy Ways to Create a Colorful Vintage Interior.
I’m so happy I collected these pot holders over time even though I wasn’t sure how I’d go about hanging them.
Another vintage item that’s great to hang in your kitchen or dining room is aprons. Read my blog post on Easy DIY Vintage Apron Wall Display for ideas on how to display your aprons.
