I can’t wait to show you my vintage Halloween fireplace mantel for 2022! I used some of my favorite spooky retro decor pieces like pumpkin blow molds and even a antique item I found on the side of the road. I hope you find inspiration in my fall mantel and it gets you excited for the upcoming autumn season!
What free item did I find on the side of the road?
I found a beautifully ruined antique mirror for free on the side of the road! The coating on the mirror was coming apart on the inside but it wasn’t flaking at all on the outside. I knew it would make the spookiest mirror for Halloween so I took it home.
I found it on bulk trash day. My town doesn’t have a bulk trash day but a city near me does and I went for a walk over there one day and found the mirror there. Finding items on the side of the road is one of many ways to find cheap or free vintage items.
My electric fireplace
If you’ve read my living room tour you know that I always wanted to buy a house with a fireplace. Since my home didn’t come with one I bought this white electric fireplace. I love the ornate mantel and it’s perfect for decorating seasonally (You can see my spring garden mantel from last year). I’ve had it for a few years now and I absolutely love it.
Styling the mantel
I decided the mirror would be perfect on my fireplace mantel. Since it’s so tall I added my large vintage inspired Halloween tree that I found at a flea market. I put two strings of orange fairy lights on the tree and I found mini orange and black ornaments at an estate sale. The embroidered ornament Halloween signs are from a flea market.

Adding blow molds and candles
I was inspired by a reel by KWendyHome to put candles in front of a mirror and have the light be reflected. I wanted to incorporate that idea into my own decor. I used the mirror as a focal point and spooky Halloween lights in front of it to make the perfect haunted Halloween mantel.
I wanted as much light reflecting off the mirror as possible so I added some LED candlesticks and LED tealights. I like to use LED because I don’t have to worry about an open flame getting too close to my decor. I also added some cute vintage pumpkin candlestick lights which you can purchase online.

Adding spooky Halloween decorations
The festive Halloween black cats are from Hobby Lobby and I bought them a few years back. They are modeled after rare paper mache cats that I always want and are quite valuable.
Of course I added some vintage books to my display. Vintage books are on my list of 10 Cheap and Common Vintage Thrift Store Items and they’re great for adding height, texture and depth to your displays. You can watch me thrift a bunch of vintage books in my latest Thrift With Me video.
I found some pre-cut Halloween fabric squares at a thrift store. I put the squares diagonal and let it hang over the mantel to create a bunting effect. I also added black cat cards which are from a super cute vintage Whitman Hearts card pack. If you’d like some more garland ideas check out my blog post with 10 easy DIY garland ideas.
