Grease is the word with our Halloween costume this year! My friend and I are both blonde and we wanted to find a vintage inspired costume that would work for blondes! We decided on one of our favorite retro movies, Grease, and dressed up as good Sandy and bad Sandy. Sandy is a fairly easy character to dress up as!
Good Sandy Costume
White button-up
Optional: Vintage sweater clip
Optional props: Vintage books and a vintage milkshake glass
Bad Sandy Costume
Optional: Hoop earrings
Optional prop: Cigarette
Saraid (SunsetSaraid on Instagram) and I met through Instagram and this was our very first time meeting in person! Saraid lives in Chicago and I live in Holland, Michigan so we needed to find a place in between that has the right setting for Grease.
We wanted to shoot a scene with bleachers, so we met in St. Joseph, Michigan at St. Joseph High School. The bleachers were just the right backdrop for a Grease photoshoot!
The easiest costume out of the two is definitely good Sandy. I had everything I needed in my closet already! I already owned a vintage 1950s skirt that I found at an estate sale. I grabbed a few old books to use as a prop and I made sure to grab a vintage football related one. Sandy is a cheerleader after all at football games in the movie.

Saraid took on the challenge of dressing as bad Sandy which she’s wanted to do for a long time. She found her black top and leather pants on Poshmark! She had some new red shoes on the way, but they didn’t arrive on time. She quickly hit a thrift store and found a pair of red heels!
The real reason we chose St. Joseph as our backdrop for Grease is for the indoor historic carousel! It’s hard to find a carnival going on in October so the carousel was a perfect solution. There were even some fun house mirrors at the carousel!
I switched out my prop for a vintage Blendo milkshake glass and a straw. I had a spare cigarette that I’ve been keeping in my costume closet for years so I brought that for Saraid to use!

Saraid and I love Grease and it was one of our vintage awakenings. It was so fun to get to dress up as two version of Olivia Newton-John and carry on her memory! If you’d like some more costume ideas check out my blog post on 15 Retro Halloween Costume Ideas for Couples.
