Vintage decor and collectibles can be used as creative storage solutions to organize your house! Here are 9 items that are perfect to repurpose as storage.
1. Vintage or antique crates
There are a bunch of different kinds of vintage crates like fruit crates, record crates, and pop bottle crates (Which I’m using above). I love the built-in partitions and it’s great for storing vintage bias tape packages.
You can watch me talk about each item and show them in my craft room in the video below!
2. Old cassette storage
I found this cassette drawer thingy at a thrift store and it was already pink, I think someone painted it. I love using it to hold pins, stickers, wood thread spools, and vintage pins.
3. Thrifted boxes and baskets
One of the easiest things to thrift is baskets and boxes that spark joy. Whether you like wood or colorful options like me, they are very versatile and are great for holding all kinds of items. I use boxes for my vintage hankie collection and baskets to hold my favorite trims.
4. Vintage doll cases
Old doll cases can have the cutest designs and patterns on them, like the blue one above. I use my doll case to hold all my plain fabric for sewing. I also have repurposed a doll case into a wall shelf and that DIY is definitely worth trying out.
5. Trash cans
Vintage waste baskets can be so cute and they’re too adorable to just use as a trash can. I store my vintage wallpaper, contact paper, and wrapping paper rolls inside them in my craft room.
6. Vintage racks
I recently found two vintage racks that I use to hold my old magazines and vintage pillowcases in my sewing room. They make great wall shelving!
7. Old jars
I thrift old jars, especially ones with retro advertising lids, to put my fabric yo-yos, buttons, and vintage thread inside.
8. Vintage suitcases
I use vintage suitcases in my craft room to store my scrapbook paper and large pieces of vintage wrapping paper that aren’t on rolls. It works perfectly for keeping paper flat and safe!
9. Tins and breadboxes
Tins without lids work well for storing pencils, markers, and paintbrushes. Large potato chip tins are perfect for huge items like wrapping paper rolls. Breadboxes are perfect for holding vintage magazines or loose vintage ads.
