How to decorate for winter and what vintage home decor items work in a comfortcore hygge space. Feeling cozy in the winter is my top priority when it comes to decorating this year!
Colorful clear tea cups
I love collecting clear depression tea cups to put LED tea lights inside. They add color and cozy vibes at night.
Incorporating LED candlesticks
I love adding LED candlesticks to my home, especially on my electric fireplace mantel (If you’re looking for the ultimate cozy feeling, get my electric fireplace. I’ve had it for 5+ years and it’s one of my favorite purchases ever). You can always get a cozy candle too!
I made a mushroom display with adorable retro toadstool decorations. I also made a quick garland out of rick rack and vintage hankies.
You can watch the video below where I discuss all these items and show how I decorate with them for the winter!
Vintage winter books
I love collecting vintage winter books that aren’t Christmas themed.
I made the jars with roses out of an old used-up candle jar and a jar from the thrift store. I used mod podge to put the paper rose clippings on the jars and it’s a great way to use vintage ephemera. I put LED tea lights inside these and I love seeing the roses dance with the warm flame behind them!
Reusing Christmas decor for winter
I reused a bunch of my Christmas decorations in this display like my Frosty records, putz houses, and bottle brush trees.
Decorating with quilts and blankets
The photos above are at my Mom’s house and she loves decorating with cozy quilts and quilted pillows. I love colorful afghans and you can see my thrifted vintage blanket collection in the video below.
Winter greeting cards, old photos, and seasonal tins
Many vintage Christmas cards can be used for winter like the two I show above. I also love collecting vintage photographs and finding ones with people out in the snow and ice skating.
I have two tins that show all four seasons on each side and I display the winter side this time of year.
I made these paper candles for Christmas but they really work for winter too, especially the blue ones for snowy decor and the red and pink ones for Valentine’s day. I made a paper candle video tutorial on my YouTube channel for Halloween but the same principles apply, just pick the colors of your choice.

Winter kitchen decorations
I added some cute felt snowflakes to my kitchen cupboard fronts in the winter and love how it looks. I also put out vintage ice cream boxes which is perfect for winter!
Now you can add “decorate for winter” to your free printable winter bucket list, it’s a great activity to do this time of year!
