10 Easy DIY Vintage Garland Ideas

There’s nothing better than a festive garland hanging up in your house! Garlands are normally saved for special holidays or birthdays, but why not have them year round? It’s a great way to show off your favorite vintage fabric and retro paper ephemera.

I was featured in an article on Apartment Guide Blog about How to Add a Pop of Color Without Paint. Creating a garland is my favorite way! It’s so easy to do and temporary so you can switch out your garlands with the seasons.

Vintage Seed Packet Garland

Whether the seed packets are new or vintage, flowers or vegetables, they make the cutest garland! All you’ll need is some bakers twine and mini clothespins. I use regular scotch tape on each end of the twine and it works great! You can buy your own vintage seed packets for super cheap here.

I made this felt Halloween garland 5+ years ago and I still bring it out every year. I found some basic ghost and bat shapes on Google and printed out a template. I cut the shapes out with felt sheets from Michaels and hot glued them to twine. No sewing required!

Probably the easiest garland of them all! If you have some vintage hankies you just fold them in half and put them on a string. You can easily switch them out for different color schemes or use Christmas hankies during the holidays.
